Ram for the Feast of the Sacrifice

Project summary

This is a picture of a ram tied up outside my local supermarket during the Feast of the Sacrifice in October 2013. We stared at each other and I felt very sad. During my many years in Turkey, I have seen many sheep, goats and even cows in the courtyards and gardens of apartment blocks and houses waiting for the moment when they will be sacrificed. Sheep and cows wandering aimlessly in the streets up and to the start of this religious holiday period was a common sight
